Mie

Located to the west of Aichi Prefecture in the Tokai and Kinki region, Mie Prefecture is home to stunning natural features and fascinating historic sites, ria coastline, Ise Jingu Shrine (the “home of the heart” of the Japanese nationals), Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes in a part of the World Heritage Site "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range", and is known as the birthplace of the Iga Ninja. Blessed with nature, culture and the bounty of both sea and land, Mie Prefecture is called "Umashikuni" meaning "Magnificent Land". The song "Once in a lifetime, visit Ise" made throngs of people flock to the Ise Jingu [Shrine] every year, especially during the Edo era.
