About Atami

Atami City, located in the eastern part of Shizuoka Prefecture, is famous for Atami Onsen, which is one of the greatest hot springs in Japan, attracting a large number of visitors on weekends. An overflowing abundance of hot spring water results in many hot spring facilities and footbaths throughout the city and steam rising here and there around the city. Legend has it that after the visit of the curative hot spring, Tokugawa Ieyasu commanded to particularly sublime spring water and bring it to Edo Castle. The Onsen [hot springs] is remaining a favorite of celebrities to this day.

Take the Tokaido Shinkansen from JR Nagoya Station and disembark at Atami Station
From Tokyo
Take the Tokaido Shinkansen or JR Tokaido Main Line from JR Tokyo Station and disembark at Atami Station

Points of Interest

Atami City has many tourist attractions and is one of the most popular destinations in Japan. There are numerous sightseeing sites including the MOA Museum of Art holding approximately 3,500 pieces of Oriental Art collections, including three National Treasures, 67 Important Cultural Properties, and 46 important artworks. Atami Castle offers a magnificent panorama of the city of Atami from the castle tower observation deck. Atami Sun Beach is fantastic in ambiance, especially when lit up at night.
