Wi-Fi & Network Environment

Free public Wi-Fi hot spots, SIM cards, rental mobile Wi-Fi routers are serviced for tourists in Japan. Free public Wi-Fi hot spots are often at airports, hotels, train stations, and large shopping malls. Since free public Wi-Fi hot spots are not covered in all areas and may be unstable, a combination with another network service is recommended.

Free Wi-Fi Services

Lately, free public Wi-Fi hot spots are popping up all over major cities, major airports, selected trains and subways, stations, coffee shops, fast food restaurants, and shopping malls in Japan, and some are introduced in multilingual. There is a smartphone application for tourists from overseas for multilingual support and free access to several Wi-Fi spots, but registering personal information may be required.

SIM Cards

Since public Wi-Fi hot spots are still limited in Japan, preparing prepaid SIM cards with mobile data network is highly recommended to be connected under any circumstances. Prepaid SIM cards for tourists from abroad may be purchased at airports and most electronics retailers. Various prepaid SIM cards are available, so please be sure to purchase the one to match the device. Please note that voice calls are not available with most of the prepaid SIM cards.

Mobile Wi-Fi Routers

Mobile Wi-Fi routers are small devices for personal hot spots which connects up to 10 devices simultaneously. Highly recommended for family trips or when using computers and smart phone simultaneously.
