Maze River Grand Fireworks Takes Place in Gero City, Gifu: Fireworks Reflected on One of Japan’s Clearest Rivers

Maze River Fireworks takes place in the Maze area of Gero City, Gifu, along the Maze River, known as one of Japan’s clearest rivers. Set against a landscape of mountains and river scenery, this summer event offers a striking view of fireworks lighting up the night sky and reflecting on the water.

Unlike large-scale fireworks festivals in major cities, this event can be enjoyed in an open natural setting, with a greater sense of space and ease. The sound of the fireworks echoing through the surrounding mountains adds to the sense of scale, creating a memorable way to experience a Japanese summer with all the senses.

A powerful fireworks display set against clear waters and mountains

At Maze River Fireworks, colorful fireworks are reflected on the clear surface of the Maze River, creating a dreamlike scene unique to this mountain area. As the sound of each launch resonates through the surrounding mountains, visitors can feel the impact of the fireworks not only visually, but throughout the body.

Food stalls around the venue also offer local flavors, allowing visitors to enjoy both the tastes of the Hida region and the atmosphere of a Japanese summer festival. The event draws not only tourists but also many local residents, making it a chance to experience the warm and welcoming culture of the area.

The Maze area is also a member of The Most Beautiful Villages in Japan Union (a network of communities recognized for their rural landscapes and local heritage). Visitors can enjoy riverside activities and walks during the day, followed by the fireworks at night. Gero City, where the event takes place, is also known for hot springs and nature-based sightseeing.
